Despite a slowdown in the shipbuilding industry, Hanjin’s Subic shipyard is bucking the odds, with order books full for the next three years.
Hanjin Heavy Industries Corporation- Philippines (HHIC-Philippines) won the bid to build two capesize bulk carriers (180,000 DWT) of an Indian shipping company for a total of $120 million.
This places the total orders to 21 very large carriers for the years which shows its unrivaled superiority.
The state-of-the-art bulk carriers with 180,000 DWT, 292 meter in length, 45m in width, 25m in height, and 15.5 knots of speed was ordered by the Adani Group of India.
The ships that will be built at HHIC Subic Shipyard is targeted to be delivered by the second half of 2012.
As early as 2007, this Indian conglomerate signed a contract to build two bulk carriers (175,000 DWT) with HHIC-Phil.
"The fact that the same vessel is ordered again by the same shipping company showcases the client’s great confidence and trust in HHIC Subic Shipyard," an official from the HHIC-Phil said.
He continued, "We are going to keep promoting our sales activities against shipping companies around the world and continue winning orders."
Last month, Hanjin won a bid to construct eight very large ore carriers (205,000 DWT).
HHIC-Phil has continued its investment and early stabilization of production system as well as maintaining the unrivaled cost competence with advanced technology.
Its Subic Shipyard is capable of constructing very-large and high value-added vessels. It has state-of-the-art facilities.
Its Dock 5 is 370m-long, while Dock 6 with 550m in length, 135m in width, is one of the world’s largest dock in the world.
The shipyard has a 4 km-long quay, four ultra-large cranes and automated assembly lines over 1,000 m-long.
The company said from 2006 to 2016, Hanjin will focus on construction and operation of Subic shipyard and steel structure plan on a 560 acre site in Subic Bay Freeport zone.
The shipyard has come to be fully equipped with the state of the art shipbuilding system which can cover all stages of shipbuildings.
It added that Subic shipyard, with its global infrastructure will allow Hanjin to be forerunners in global enterprise by creating synergy between the factory and construction industry as well as through new ship buildings.
