VISAKHAPATNAM: Praveenya Institute of Marine Engineering and Maritime Studies (PRIME) located at Modavalasa in Vizianagaram district, about 40 km from the city is offering a B.E. Degree course in Marine Engineering.
The four-year B.E. degree course in Marine Engineering is in tune with the guidelines set by the International Maritime Organisation and the STWC and is recognised by the Director General of Shipping and AICTE. It's affiliated to Andhra University for award of the degree, according to Chairman of PRIME and Apex Group of Industries Nekkanti Rama Rao.
Director of the Apex Group D.V. Raju says that the PRIME campus was the only one in India that has a full-fledged and operational 200 MT ship within the campus for hands on practical exposure to the students of marine engineering. The ship has equipments like engine DG sets, ballast pumps, bilge pumps and centrifugal systems to give the feel of a fully operational ship.
The intake for the marine engineering course is 80 per year and for other disciplines like Civil, Mechanical, EEE and ECE it is 60. The criteria for admission into marine engineering is a pass in 10 plus 2 with 60 per cent marks in MPC group and for other disciplines the admissions would be based on the EAMCET rank.
After passing out one need not go for the mandatory one year Graduate Marine Engineering conversion examination and students can directly take up on board job as a trainee engineer, says college Principal Aditya Mukherjee.
