VISAKHAPATNAM: Public resentment caused due to coal dust, iron ore and other pollution figured prominently during a meeting between Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Ajeya Kallam.
The meeting, which lasted for 30 minutes on Monday night, was held following a representation by Visakhapatnam South MLA Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao. At the one-to-one meeting, the Chief Minister understood to have directed the VPT to take corrective steps immediately to reduce pollution levels. He also wanted long term plan to control pollution permanently.
Mr. Kallam was said to have explained about the steps being taken to contain pollution levels. He said they would have fully covered conveyor belt to avoid spillage of iron ore dust and assured the Chief Minister that all measures would be taken to ensure pollution-free cargo handling. Meanwhile, Mr. Srinivasa Rao thanked the Chief Minister for his intervention in the matter and directing VPT authorities for taking the required steps immediately.
